The Oldest American Baseball Team: The Chicago Cubs team was started in 1870, when they were known as the Chicago White Stockings, part of the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players. Due to ethical conflicts within the league, then-president William Hulbert urged for the formation of the National League, which was started in 1876. The White Stockings quickly became known as one of the National League's better teams. They were the first team ever to win the National League pennant, and won a total of six pennants from 1876 to 1886. They were known as the Chicago Colts by 1890, but became the Cubs officially in 1907. They earned the best winning percentage in Major League history with a .763 in 1906 despite losing the World Series to the White Sox. Although they won back to back World Series titles in 1907 and 1908, the Cubs have yet to win another championship since – the longest a team has ever gone without winning a title. Get your Chicago Cubs tickets today and maybe the game you see will be the game that takes them to their first World Series in 105 years.

Continuing an Era: The Cubs won another National League pennant in 1910 but lost the World Series title to the Philadelphia Athletics. Some years later the Cubs were moved from their original stadium at West Side Grounds to the newly constructed Weeghman Park, and won another pennant in 1918. They would go on to win several more pennants in the early 1930s under the ownership of Bill Wrigley and the guidance of president Bill Veeck, Sr., leading several players to the Hall of Fame and establishing multiple all-time baseball records. Even if you get your Chicago Cubs tickets now, or any other MLB team's tickets, it's unlikely that their league records will be broken anytime soon! After the late 1930s, the Cubs seemed to retreat into the shadows as far as their on-field performance was concerned. They lost the 1945 World Series to the Detroit Tigers, leading many to believe that a curse was set upon them by a fan who was kicked out of the game after bringing his goat to sit with him. After this incident, the Cubs placed in the lowest ranks of the National League almost every year over the next twenty years.

A Resurrection of Sorts: The Chicago Cubs finally seemed to get their groovc back in the last 1960s with winning records in both 1967 and 1968, but 1969 proved to be another setback with an eight-game losing streak that ended with the New York Mets winning the World Series. The 1970s brought the emergence of a pattern for the Cubs, where they would come out fighting the first several games and then wear themselves out, playing poorly the last half of the season. The Cubs were sold to the Chicago Tribune in 1981. The Cubs experienced a sort of revival under the management of Dallas Green, improving their winning record and exciting their fans, but the early 1990s were unremarkable. 1998 was a memorable year for the Cubs with the incredible talent of players such as Sammy Sosa and Kerry Wood making headlines, but they still landed in the bottom of their division rankings at the end of the decade. They finally won a division title in 2003. The years from 2004 to 2006 were riddled with struggles, injuries to key players, and defeats which damaged team morale. They earned the National League Central title in 2007 and again in 2008, but the years since have been plagued with injuries, trades and player acquisitions made in order to develop a younger team. When you get your Chicago Cubs tickets from Online Tickets USA and have a seat in front of this newly formed group of Cubs, you'll be watching history in the making – maybe one of the rookies you see on the field will be the next MVP or Hall of Famer.
