The NFL history of the St. Louis Rams franchise begins in Cleveland, Ohio in 1937. The franchise was founded in 1936 by Homer Marshman, an attorney in Cleveland, who named the team “Rams” after the hardworking football players that had graduated from Fordham University, some of whom played on the team. The Rams spent one year in the recently formed American Football League, before joining the NFL for the 1937 season.

After playing in Cleveland for 10 years, the Rams franchise packed its bags and moved to sunny Los Angeles for the start of the 1946 season. The Rams left the city of Cleveland on a high note, winning the NFL Championship in 1945, and would arrive in Los Angeles with a big social splash. At this point in history, NFL teams were segregated and franchises were not allowed to have African-Americans on the roster.

Commissioners for the Los Angeles Coliseum, the Rams new home, approved the franchise’s relocation on the condition that the team integrated racially. Kenny Washington and Woody Strode, products of the UCLA football program, signed with the Rams that season and became the first African-American players to compete in the NFL after World War II. The Rams franchise would remain in Los Angeles through the 1994 season, winning another NFL Championship for the club in 1951.

Beginning with the 1995 NFL season, St. Louis Rams tickets went on sale for the first time following the franchise’s relocation to the city of St. Louis. For its first season, St. Louis Rams tickets were sold for games at Busch Memorial Stadium, the home of MLB’s St. Louis Cardinals. Since then the Rams have played all home games at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

Today, the St. Louis Rams are working hard to rebuild and return to the days of the “Greatest Show on Turf.” Head coach Jeff Fisher, a proven winner as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, faces the start of his 3rd season in charge of the Rams. The franchise is waiting to see if Sam Bradford will be the quarterback of the future, seeking a replacement at running back for the departed Steven Jackson, and leaning on a strong defense led by DE Chris Long and LB James Laurinaitis.

As members of the NFC West, the St. Louis Rams play host to the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, and Seattle Seahawks on an annual basis. Fans purchasing St. Louis Rams tickets get the chance to see the likes of Larry Fitzgerald, Vernon Davis, Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch, and Russell Wilson each season.
