When the Buccaneers joined the NFL in 1976, the franchise did so as an expansion team competing in the AFC West division. After just one season in the AFC, the NFL set about realigning the divisions and conferences in the league. The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers switched spots in the league, with the Seahawks joining the AFC West and the Buccaneers settling in the NFC Central.

For the better part of the next 30 years, the Buccaneers would compete in ambiguity alongside their storied compatriots in the NFC Central division. The Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Lions all had histories that dwarfed the Buccaneers. The experience of the franchise on the field and in the playoffs was drastically different from that of its division rivals. Not only was the team isolated from its rivals on the NFL hierarchy, it was isolated geographically.

While the fans of those four teams could purchase tickets to road games and reach the opponent’s city by car, fans with Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets had to board a plane to get to the closest city in the division. However, with the turn of the 21st century there would be a new Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise competing on the field, and it would be one known for creating the most difficult defensive schemes in the league.

Under the guidance of Tony Dungy, the Buccaneers developed a stout defense in the late 1990s that would serve as the foundation for a successful Super Bowl run during the 2002 season. Though Dungy had departed, replaced by Jon Gruden, the Buccaneers successfully navigated the NFC playoffs to meet the heavily favored Oakland Raiders in the Super Bowl that year. In winning the Super Bowl in 2002, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became just one of three franchises in the NFL to win its lone Super Bowl appearance (New Orleans and New York Jets).

This coming season, a new head coach has arrived and a new air of confidence is swirling around Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Lovie Smith brings a defensive pedigree that has fans dreaming of an improved product on the field, and is helping drive renewed interest in Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets among fans throughout the Gulf Coast of Florida. As members of the NFC South, Tampa fans are treated to the likes of Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham, Matt Ryan, and Cam Newton on the field at Raymond James on an annual basis.
