Madison Square Garden Information and Schedule

Madison Square Garden Tickets

Madison Square Garden TicketsAsk anyone on the street about the most respected venue in New York City and the vast majority will shout out Madison Square Garden. Affectionately known as The Garden, Madison Square Garden is the fourth incarnation of the original Garden and is currently located in midtown Manhattan between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. Madison Square Garden tickets are a constant seller as the arena is one of the busiest in the world.

The latest incarnation of Madison Square Garden opened its doors on 11 February 1968. While the arena hosts a variety of events each year, the primary sellers of Madison Square Garden tickets are the arena's two resident sports franchises, the New York Rangers (NHL) and the New York Knicks (NBA). The Rangers and Knicks have both called Madison Square Garden home since the start of their respective 1968 seasons.

As a whole, Madison Square Garden is the third-busiest concert venue in the world behind only Manchester Arena and The Q2 Arena, both of which are located in the United Kingdom. The volume of Madison Square Garden tickets sold each year makes it the third-busiest, and in total there are some 320 events hosted at the Garden on an annual basis.

As the home of the New York Rangers of the NHL, Madison Square Garden currently ranks as the oldest arena in the NHL. For the New York Knicks, Madison Square Garden is the second-oldest arena in the NBA. Each year the Garden hosts 41 regular season home games for the Rangers and 41 regular season home games for the Knicks as well.

Madison Square Garden tickets are sold on a regular basis for a variety of other long-standing tenants that call the Garden home. Since 1969, the St. John's University men's basketball team has called the Garden home. Additionally, the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) for NCAA men's basketball programs has been hosted by Madison Square Garden since the 1969 season. Beginning in 1983, the Big East Men's Basketball Tournament contributed to Madison Square Garden ticket sales each year.

A wide variety of other events are hosted by the Garden each year, including but not limited to, political conventions, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus events, boxing matches, and even Westminster Kennel Club Dog Shows. Over the course of its history, Madison Square Garden has also played host to a number of unforgettable events, including John Lennon's final concert before he was murdered and the first ever boxing match between legendary fighters Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Following a $1 billion renovation, completed in stages between 2011 and 2013, Madison Square Garden remains a preeminent entertainment venue in the New York City metro area. Currently, Madison Square Garden tickets remain on sale for the New York Rangers 2014 NHL Playoff push. Additional event dates at the Garden through spring and summer 2014 include a concert tour stop for Lady Gaga (13 May), a World Championship Boxing match between Cotto and Martinez (7 June), and the famed WWE Summer Slam pay-per-view event (12 July).
